Professor Dr Klaus-Michael Bogdal, literary theorist, author, born in Gelsenkirchen in 1948.
Klaus-Michael Bogdal studied German, Slavonic languages and literature, and philosophy at the Ruhr University Bochum, where he gained his doctorate in 1976 with a thesis on “Gruesome Images. The worker as seen by the middle-class – the example of Naturalism”. Subsequently he worked as a teacher at a grammar school and as a department head in Dortmund.
In 1991 Bogdal qualified as a professor with the professorial thesis “Between Everyday Life and Utopia. Workers’ literature as a discourse of the 19th century”.
From 1992 to 1996 he held a professorship for Modern German Literature History and Didactics at the PH Freiburg.
1996 to 2001 he held the chair for Literature at the Gerhard Mercator University Duisburg.
In 2002 Professor Dr Bogdal took over the chair for German Literature at the faculty for Linguistics and Literature Studies at the University of Bielefeld.
