TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION | DEUTSCHE KINEMATHEK
Media expert Jürgen Keiper works at the Deutsche Kinemathek – Museum für Film und Fernsehen, where he is responsible, inter alia, for “LOST FILMS”, the website of “Wir waren so frei … Momentaufnahmen 1989/90”, “FIRST WE TAKE” (with Peter Paul Kubitz), and the archive of the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (with Volkmar Ernst).
He was editor of the journal Film und Kritik (1992–1999) and research fellow at the Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Studies of Goethe University Frankfurt (1993-97). Subsequently (1997–2006) he worked for the Deutsches Filminstitut, where he was in charge of, e.g., the IST project “COLLATE – Collaboratory for Annotation, Indexing and Retrieval of Digitized Historical Archive Material”.
Before taking up his post with the Deutsche Kinemathek in 2006, Keiper directed the projects “filmportal.de“ (2003–2006) and MIDAS – Moving Image Database for Access and Re-use of European film collections“ (2005–2006) and convened the Standardisation Working Group for Filmographic Entries on a European Level (2005–2006) in collaboration with the European Committee for Standardization and the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN).
Numerous teaching assignments, talks, and expert opinions on film, new media, and lasting effectiveness in the digital age followed. Currently Keiper teaches at the Institute for Information and Documentation of Potsdam University of Applied Sciences as well as for the Audio-visual Cultural Heritage Programme at Filmuniversität Babelsberg.
