Archive Section Theatre & Drama

The Archive Section Theatre & Drama documents the rich history of Romani theatre, taking into account different developments in Eastern and Western Europe. At the core of the collection are the establishment and work of the three institutionalised Romani theatres: Teatr Romen (Moskow), Divadlo Romathan (Kosice) and Theater Pralipe (Macedonia/Germany). How have these institutions influenced the development of Romani theatre? The archive section also presents important contemporary theatre groups, productions, texts and directors from all over Europe, probing the question of why the institutionalisation of Romani theatre poses such a great challenge. A further focus of the Archive is theatre’s influence on the preservation and writing of different Romani dialects.
